Travel Insurance

You've planned your dream vacation; now give yourself peace of mind. No one expects that there will be a need to cancel at the time they book, but we find that an average of 10% of those planned trips are cancelled for one reason or another.

Here are some helpful links for travel insurance for your trip to Italy:

Why do you need to insure your trip?

It's not just your investment you'll be protecting; you're also protecting yourself and your family. If you are involved in a car crash, injure yourself, lose your luggage during your trip, become ill, have to cancel your villa, or are delayed en route and miss your connection, your ordinary insurance policies may not protect you!

Worldwide Trip Protector provides protection for many events that may occur before and during your vacation. Included in the plan are benefits for trip cancellation or interruption, travel delay, baggage delay or loss, death from aircraft mishap, medical expense, and medical transportation, if needed. The medical element of travel insurance is critical, since few health plans are in effect outside their country of issue.

The plan also includes the benefits of trip cancellation and interruption, lost or stolen baggage or travel documents, baggage delay, and accidental death and dismemberment. Some of the trip cancellation/interruption reasons included in Worldwide Trip Protector plans are; weather, injury, illness, termination of employment or financial default of the airline or tour operator which results in bankruptcy or discontinued services, terrorism, and jury duty.

There is no co-pay or deductible, and all of our protection plans are primary, which means that if you make a claim, this policy will pay first, before your other travel insurance plans.

As we mentioned before, you don't expect to cancel when you plan your trip, but unforeseen circumstances do arise and travel insurance gives you peace of mind incase they do.

Here is a sampling of a few of the actual situations our guests encountered after booking their home:

Anna and Jim along with their 4 children and spouses left for two weeks in Umbria. Their connecting flight from Chicago was cancelled due to fog. They were able to get a hotel and since weather is not covered by the airlines, since they had purchased travel insurance through us, all six hotel rooms were covered with their travel insurance. But it didn't end there...once they got to Italy, they found that only 1 suitcase out of 10 made it to their final destination. Their luggage did not show up at their villa until the middle of the second week. Their insurance covered their hotel in Chicago, reimbursed them for the one night they missed at the villa and the cost of buying new clothes.

We received a call from Sandy one week before she, her husband, their children and grandchildren were to depart for their trip to Italy. Her husband Ed had complained of not feeling well and ended up having emergency heart surgery. We processed the paperwork for Sandy so she can devote herself to her family and she was issued a swift refund. A year later, Ed and Sandy were able to take that trip to Italy with their children and grandchildren.

Cindy and Bob planned their trip over a year in advance, two weeks in Rome followed by two weeks in the Tuscan countryside. During their first week in Rome, Cindy missed a step coming out of a restaurant and broke her foot. After her hospital visit where she was given a cast and a set of crutches, she continued to persevere and stay in Italy. By the end of week two, she decided it best to cut the trip short and return home. Cindy and Bob did not have trip cancellation insurance and was not able to get a refund for the two week rental in Tuscany they didn't use, nor was she covered for all of her medical bills, nor the additional $4,000 to change their flight home. To add to the injury, pun intended, they rented their car through a company that didn't allow cancellations and had to pay the full two weeks of car rental that they didnt use. All of these expenses were out of pocket. Had Cindy and Bob bought travel insurance, their rental and medical expenses would have been paid.

Travel insurance also covers you in case of a robbery. If you should return back to your apartment or villa to find your computer and ipod missing you will be reimbursed up to $5,000 per person by submitting your police report to Travel Insured.

A small expense for peace of mind, don't you agree?
